Extension Privacy Policy

What this extension does

Shopify Theme Detector has one job. When you click its icon while viewing a store, it tells you the Shopify theme and apps that store uses, along with how popular and fast they are. That single purpose is the only reason it needs any access at all.

What it accesses, and why

• The address of your current tab, only when you click the icon. The extension reads the URL of the active tab and sends it to our server at shopthemedetector.com so we can look up that store's theme and apps. It does not read the content of the page, and it does not run on tabs where you have not clicked it.
• A little on-device storage. The extension keeps a small counter of how many times you have used it and whether you have dismissed the rating prompt. This is saved on your own device through Chrome's storage and is never sent anywhere.
• Nothing in the background. The extension acts only when you click the icon. It does not follow your browsing, watch other tabs, or run while you are not using it.

If you ask for an emailed report (optional)

The results card includes an optional "Email me this report" button. If you use it, you are taken to shopthemedetector.com where you can enter your email address to receive the report. That email is used to send you the report and occasional related updates. You can unsubscribe at any time. If you never use this button, we never receive your email.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal data.
• We do not collect your browsing history.
• We do not track you across other websites.
• We do not read, store, or transmit the content of the pages you visit. Only the store URL you choose to check leaves your browser.
• We do not inject ads into any page.

How the data is used and shared

The store URL you check is processed by our own servers to detect the theme and apps. Detected store domains may be recorded in aggregate so our public statistics stay accurate, for example how many stores use a given theme. These are public store homepages, not personal information about you.

Results may include affiliate links to Shopify, theme, and app listings. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Chrome permissions we request

• activeTab: to read the URL of the tab you are on at the moment you click the icon.
• storage: to remember your usage count and rating-prompt choice on your device.
• Access to shopthemedetector.com: so the extension can fetch your results from our server.

Children

Shopify Theme Detector is a tool for merchants, developers, and marketers. It is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect any data from them.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the extension evolves. Any meaningful change will appear on this page with a new date at the top.
