What Our Shopify Store Fingerprint Data Can See

Can ShopThemeDetector tell if a Shopify theme is pirated?
Only for one theme family, Shrine PRO, and only because its cracked build ships a file named shrine.null.js that identifies itself. We cannot detect pirated themes in general. For any theme whose crack does not leave a recognisable file, we have no way to flag it.

What is a nulled Shopify theme?
A nulled theme is an unlicensed copy of a paid theme, redistributed for free on download sites. “Nulled” and “cracked” mean the same thing. Because a premium theme like Shrine PRO is sold only by its developer, a free copy of it is a pirated one.
-
Is an outdated Shopify theme the same as a pirated one?
No. Most store owners running an old theme version are legitimate buyers who never updated, because updating a Shopify theme is a manual reinstall that can lose customisations. In our data the largest old-build group, 558 stores on Shrine PRO 1.3.0, was entirely clean.

How many Shopify stores run a pirated Shrine PRO theme?
Of the 59,701 Shopify stores we hold fingerprints for, 78 run the pirated Shrine PRO build, which is about one store in a thousand. It is a real and measurable pattern, but it is not widespread across Shopify stores.
-
What is “Shrine PRO Ecom Elite”?
It is not a real product. It is an invented name under which a redistributed copy of Shrine PRO circulates. Of 43 stores reporting that theme name, 38 carried the pirated file, which is 88 percent, making the name itself the strongest single warning sign.

How does ShopThemeDetector collect theme version data?
On every scan we read a store’s live code and record a structural fingerprint: the theme in use, its version string, and the full set of files the storefront loads. It needs no private access, since it reads the same code any visitor’s browser downloads.
