Real-user Core Web Vitals grouped by how many apps a store runs, across Shopify stores with enough traffic to appear in Chrome UX Report data. Every row shows the number of stores behind it. These numbers say what travels with what, not what causes what.
Among Shopify stores with enough traffic to appear in Chrome UX Report data, 72% of stores running 5 apps pass Google’s Core Web Vitals on mobile (2,905 stores), against 68.4% of stores running 6 to 10 apps (12,117 stores). Stores that install more apps are also bigger and busier stores, so this is an association between store profiles, not a measure of what any app does.

The curve above groups stores by how many apps they run, which cannot say anything about a particular app. This board can. For each app we compare the stores running it against stores that are alike in the ways we can measure: same theme, same number of apps installed. Only groups holding stores on both sides count, and the without-the-app side is re-weighted to match the mix of groups the app's own stores sit in. The raw comparison sits alongside, because the two often disagree, and on some apps they disagree in direction.
A positive difference means stores running the app pass Core Web Vitals as often as comparable stores without it, which is a reason to say the app carries no measured speed cost. It is not a reason to say the app makes a store faster. Nothing here is a before-and-after measurement of one store, and an app is a marker of the kind of store that installs it as much as anything else.

The same comparison asked of a whole category rather than one app: stores running at least one analytics app, or at least one page builder, against comparable stores running none of that kind. Categories are the App Store category each app is listed under. This is not an average of the per-app figures above, which would count a store running three tools of one kind three times over; each category is matched from scratch on the same theme and app-load groups.

Every number on this page is real-world data from Google's Chrome UX Report, measured on mobile phones: the Core Web Vitals that actual Chrome users experienced on real stores. We take the most recent reading we hold for each store, count the apps we detect on that same store, and group the stores into the app-count buckets our app-stack distribution already publishes. Reporting a single form factor keeps the rows comparable, and mobile is where most storefront traffic and the tighter thresholds live.
What this is, and what it is not: an association between what a store runs and what its visitors measure. A store running twelve apps is typically older, larger and busier than a store running two, so the app count is a marker of the kind of store at least as much as anything else. Nothing here isolates one app, and nothing here is a before-and-after measurement of the same store. To know what a single app does to your store, measure your store with it and without it.
Coverage, and why it matters for the absolute figures: the Chrome UX Report only reports a site once it has enough real traffic, so the stores measured here are a fraction of all Shopify stores and a larger-than-average fraction. That is why every pass rate on this page is stated as a share of covered stores rather than of Shopify stores generally. The relationships between the rows survive that, because each row is drawn from the same pool the same way; the absolute pass rates do not.
How the two named boards are matched, and what they do not control for: every store is sorted into a group by the theme it runs and the number of apps installed on it, and only groups holding stores both with and without the app count toward the figure. The comparison side is then re-weighted to the mix of groups the app's own stores sit in, so the two sides are read across the same spread of themes and app loads. We match on theme and app load, and we do not control for catalogue size: the product counts we hold are recorded snapshots rather than live figures, and thousands of covered stores have no count at all, so matching on them would have narrowed the comparison without making it fairer. An app needs at least 25 comparable stores before a matched figure is published for it.
Why thin buckets show a dash: a bucket needs at least 25 stores of real-world data before we print a pass rate for it. The buckets at the far end of the stack hold the fewest stores, so they are the ones most likely to be blank, and the ones whose numbers move most between updates when they are not. Read the ends of the curve with the store counts next to them, which is why those counts are a column rather than a footnote.
Independent by design: rankings are determined solely by live detection data. Affiliate relationships never affect what ranks or how stores are counted. Read the full methodology →
