Shopify’s free trial gives you three days to set up and test a store with no credit card required. After the free days, you can keep that store running for $1 a month for your first three months, before a regular monthly plan starts. That is the full offer, and the rest of this page covers how to claim it and what you can actually do in those first months.

Here is the part most trial guides skip. The $1-a-month price is not active on day one. You start on the free 3-day trial, and the $1 rate only applies once you choose a plan to keep your store live. There is no promo code to enter and no coupon to hunt for, the discount is added automatically when you pick your plan, and if you cancel during the free days you are not charged anything.

If you are still weighing it up, three days plus the $1 months is enough time to build a real storefront, add a handful of products, and get a feel for the dashboard before you commit to full pricing. Below we go through what the plan includes, who it suits, and the other free ways to try Shopify if the $1 route is not right for you.

Which Plans Qualify for the $1 Price?

The $1-a-month price covers three paid plans: Basic, Grow, and Advanced. The entry Starter plan and the Plus tier are not part of this offer. You pay $1 a month for the first three months on whichever of the three you pick, then that plan’s regular monthly price begins.

Plan First 3 months Regular price after
Basic $1/mo $39/mo
Grow $1/mo $105/mo
Advanced $1/mo $399/mo

Regular US monthly prices, checked on Shopify’s pricing page on October 4, 2026. Shopify sets these figures and adjusts them from time to time, so confirm the current price there before you sign up.

Does the $1 Deal Work on Annual Billing?

No. The $1-a-month rate applies to monthly billing only. If you choose an annual plan during the promotion, you give up the $1 rate and pay the discounted annual price instead, billed as one upfront charge for the year. To keep the $1 months, select monthly billing when you pick your plan, and wait until the three months are over before you consider switching to annual for the yearly discount.

Who Is Eligible for the $1 Trial?

The offer is for new Shopify accounts only, one per new email address. An existing store, or an email address you have already used to sign up for Shopify, does not qualify and will be charged the regular price. If you want to test a fresh store on the deal, start it with an email that has never been tied to a Shopify account.

What Do You Pay After the Three Months?

When the three $1 months end, your plan converts to its regular monthly price automatically, on the card you signed up with. There is no second prompt and no separate confirmation step. Basic becomes $39 a month, Grow $105 a month, and Advanced $399 a month. If the plan is more than you need once the promo ends, you can downgrade or cancel from your Shopify admin before the first full charge.

How to Claim the $1-a-Month Deal, Step by Step

There is no promo code and no coupon to find. The discount is applied on its own when you select a plan. The steps are:

  1. Go to shopify.com and start the free 3-day trial. No credit card is needed to begin.
  2. Build and test your store during the three free days, so you know it is the right fit.
  3. Before the free days end, open the plan page and choose Basic, Grow, or Advanced to keep your store live.
  4. Select monthly billing. The $1 price shows at checkout with no code entered.
  5. Add your payment details and confirm. You are billed $1 for each of the first three months, then the regular price of the plan you chose.

What You Can Actually Build in Three Months

Three days plus three $1 months is enough time to launch a working store rather than just look around. In that window you can pick and customize a theme, add your first batch of products with photos and descriptions, set up payments and shipping, run a test order through checkout, and connect a domain. It is also long enough to publish your first pages, install the apps you need, and send an opening marketing campaign, which is the real point of the deal: it lets you treat the trial as a soft launch instead of a demo. If you are new to the platform, our guide on getting started with Shopify walks through the setup order.

If the $1/month deal is not a fit, see the other ways to get a free Shopify account, including the developer store and Starter plan.
