Blockify Fraud Filter, Blocker is a security app made by Blockify, listed on the Shopify App Store with a free tier and paid plans on top. Its job is defensive: block IPs, block whole countries, catch bots, and flag likely fraudulent orders before they clear checkout. Under the hood it uses proxy and VPN detection, IP reputation, and order-signal patterns to score each visitor and order against a set of rules the merchant configures.

In our dataset, Blockify shows up on a meaningful slice of Shopify stores and carries a distinctive fingerprint. Stores running it tend to have larger catalogs than average and heavier app stacks. That combination reads as an established DTC operator with enough revenue at stake to worry about fraud. It also implies enough operational discipline to have already assembled a full tech stack. Blockify usually sits in that stack as a defensive layer alongside the checkout and payment tools that fire before it.

Our take

Install it before the fraud actually hits. Chargebacks and reserve holds are the punishment side of the fraud equation; the preventive side is cheaper. A store that starts thinking about fraud only after its first big wave pays for that delay. Chargeback fees and lost inventory usually cost more than the subscription would have. Blockify's free tier gives you the country-block and IP-block basics; the paid tiers add the higher-signal detection like proxy and VPN filtering.

Country blocking is a blunt tool. Use it deliberately. Blocking a whole country solves obvious problems (a store not licensed to ship there) but also throws away real orders from legitimate customers on VPNs, expat shoppers, and travelers. Before turning on any country block, run through the order log for the past few months. Check whether the fraud you saw actually came from that country or just correlated with it. A geo-block against a legitimate diaspora costs revenue, and it costs quietly.

Layer it, do not lean on it. Blockify is a filter layer that runs before payment. It catches proxy IPs, high-risk countries, and known bad actors. But it is not a substitute for the fraud tools your payment processor already runs, and it does not review disputed transactions after the fact. Pair it with strong 3D Secure rules on the payment side, an AVS/CVV posture that matches your risk tolerance, and a manual-review queue for the borderline orders your processor flags. Blockify is the front door; the payment processor is the safe.

Read your own logs before writing rules. Blockify's power comes from its rules engine (block by country, IP range, device fingerprint, or order signal) but rules only work when they match your actual fraud pattern. A store getting hit by card-testing bots writes different rules than a store getting hit by cross-border chargebacks. Spend an evening in your rejected-order log before you configure Blockify, and you will end up with a tighter policy than any default template gives you.

How this data works

This figure comes from live detection: we scan Shopify storefronts and read the apps each one runs, then express it as a share of the 3,500,000+ stores in our dataset. It is a share of every store in our dataset, not just recently scanned stores, so it moves more slowly than the month-over-month figures on our trends page. We report what is currently detected, not historical installs or Theme Store / App Store counts.

Independent by design: rankings are determined solely by live detection data. Affiliate relationships never affect what ranks or how stores are counted. Read the full methodology →
