Cookiebot is the Shopify integration of Usercentrics' Cookiebot CMP, a Danish consent-management platform that's been running across the wider web for years. Its promise on Shopify is the same as elsewhere: automatic scanning of the cookies your store actually drops, then a compliant banner that lets shoppers accept, reject, or granularly consent, plus a monthly log Google auditors will accept if you run GA4 or Google Ads.
On Shopify specifically the app sits well behind the category leaders. Its install base is a small slice of the market compared with Consentmo or Pandectes, and its Shopify App Store review count is much smaller than those two, so most of the credibility here rides on the parent product's track record off Shopify. It fits stores that already trust the Cookiebot brand or need the auditor-friendly consent log for European or California traffic, rather than merchants shopping the Shopify App Store cold.
Judge it against the wider Cookiebot product, not the Shopify listing. The Shopify wrapper has too few reviews to draw a strong signal from on its own. If the parent Cookiebot service has passed a CMP audit for stores like yours before, that track record carries over; if you've never used the brand elsewhere, the Shopify listing alone won't tell you whether this is the right pick.
Fits a store that already answers yes to Consent Mode v2. Google Ads and GA4 running with Consent Mode v2 need a certified CMP that emits the right signals, and Cookiebot is on Google's list. If you don't run Google's ad or analytics stack, that certification premium isn't worth paying for and a lighter Shopify-native banner is fine.
Watch the paid-tier ceiling. The freemium plan works for small catalogs, but the paid tiers cap out lower than enterprise CMPs, so a store with heavy multi-region traffic (multiple EEA countries plus California plus rest of world) may outgrow the plan and end up shopping again.
Auto-scan is the reason it exists. The differentiator versus Shopify-native banner apps is the crawler that finds every third-party script and categorises it. Merchants who have never inventoried their tracker stack usually learn a lot from the first scan report; that alone is worth the setup effort, even if you swap CMP later.

This figure comes from live detection: we scan Shopify storefronts and read the apps each one runs, then express it as a share of the 3,500,000+ stores in our dataset. It is a share of every store in our dataset, not just recently scanned stores, so it moves more slowly than the month-over-month figures on our trends page. We report what is currently detected, not historical installs or Theme Store / App Store counts.
Independent by design: rankings are determined solely by live detection data. Affiliate relationships never affect what ranks or how stores are counted. Read the full methodology →
