Across 50 real Split stores, 86.4% pass Google’s Core Web Vitals (median LCP 1.6s).
Split is a premium Shopify Theme Store theme from Archetype Themes, built around editorial typography and image-forward layouts. It ships with three presets, Split, Drawer and Nomad, each giving the same underlying theme a visibly different look, so the merchant picks a design direction before they ever touch the customizer. The buyer is paying for the design decision, not just the code.
The install base in our dataset is small but the signal around it is clean. Core Web Vitals pass rates on live Split stores land well above the Shopify median, median LCP sits comfortably inside the 2.5-second threshold, and the stores running it carry a middling-size catalog with a normal app stack. This is a theme chosen by brand-led merchants, not by stores trying to squeeze cost. The price is a filter that keeps the install base small on purpose.
Who it fits. Brand-led stores with strong photography and copy, fashion labels, lifestyle brands and home-and-living merchants who treat the storefront as magazine real estate. The three presets cover enough of the visual range that most brand concepts can land in one of them without heavy customization, which is why the theme sells on design decisions more than feature counts.
Pricing shape. A one-time price in the premium Theme Store band. The number is high enough to filter out casual installs, which shows in the data as a small but focused install base, and it buys the three visual directions in one package rather than needing a separate theme per direction.
Performance signal. Real-store Core Web Vitals land well on the healthy side of the Shopify median, with LCP, INP and CLS all inside the “good” range on live stores. For a visual theme that leans on hero imagery, that is the harder number to hit and the one that matters when merchants compare theme speed on identical content.
Trade-offs. Low adoption is the trade-off a buyer accepts for the look. Fewer live stores means fewer third-party integrations tested in the wild, less community troubleshooting, and more reliance on Archetype’s own support when something edge-cases out. For a brand with a developer in the loop, that is a non-issue; for a merchant hoping for a huge community of installs to lean on, it is worth knowing before purchase.

This figure comes from live detection: we scan Shopify storefronts and read the active theme each one runs, then express it as a share of the 3,500,000+ stores in our dataset. It is a share of every store in our dataset, not just recently scanned stores, so it moves more slowly than the month-over-month figures on our trends page. We report what is currently detected, not historical installs or Theme Store / App Store counts.
Independent by design: rankings are determined solely by live detection data. Affiliate relationships never affect what ranks or how stores are counted. Read the full methodology →
