Xtra runs on 0.2% of the 3,500,000+ Shopify stores across our full detection dataset. For how its share is moving right now, see theme trends.
Xtra is a Shopify theme used by 0.2% of the Shopify stores in our dataset. The figure reflects live storefront detection of the active theme, not Theme Store download counts.

Across 69 real Xtra stores, 23.5% pass Google’s Core Web Vitals (median LCP 1.7s). Filtered to stores running only a few apps, that rises to 23.4%, isolating the theme’s own speed from the apps merchants pile on.
Xtra is a paid Shopify Theme Store multipurpose theme sold as a one-time license, popular with merchants who run genuinely large catalogs. It ships with five presets (Xtra, Seed, Calm, Vault and Rover) that share one feature set: built-in advanced filtering, mega-menu navigation, quick view, upsell prompts, promotional widgets and native bulk-ordering. Many stores lean on fewer app subscriptions than a comparable theme setup would need.
The stores that adopt it show an unusual mix in our dataset. They carry the largest catalogs among the paid themes we track, and they also run a leaner app stack than the platform average, which is an atypical combination that reflects Xtra's built-in tooling. Where Xtra stores struggle is real-world speed. Field Core Web Vitals numbers are weak, and unlike most themes we track, the lean-app cohort does not do meaningfully better, which points to the theme itself carrying the drag rather than the merchant's app stack.
Where it fits: Xtra fits growing catalog stores that want built-in filtering, mega-menu and promotional tools without stacking apps to get there. It reads as a builder's theme rather than a design-first one, with five presets that give different starting points under one license.
The trade-off: The theme is slow at the field level, and unlike most themes we track, moving to a leaner app stack does not lift the numbers meaningfully. That is worth naming clearly: the drag lives inside the theme's code, not in a merchant's app decisions. Stores that depend on paid traffic and Core Web Vitals signals for ranking should plan around that.
Ideal store: A very-large-catalog merchant (thousands of SKUs) who values pre-built section variety, native filtering and bulk-order tools over top-tier out-of-the-box speed. Multipurpose retailers, B2B and wholesale-adjacent stores, and merchants outgrowing Dawn's single-layout ceiling are the natural fits.
Before you commit: Test Xtra on real product data, on real devices, with the app stack you plan to run. Its all-stores and lean-app cohort numbers are close enough that swapping apps will not fix the speed picture. If ranking depends on Core Web Vitals for your store, budget for theme-level performance work at build time: image compression, section discipline, and turning off presets you are not using.

This figure comes from live detection: we scan Shopify storefronts and read the active theme each one runs, then express it as a share of the 3,500,000+ stores in our dataset. It is a share of every store in our dataset, not just recently scanned stores, so it moves more slowly than the month-over-month figures on our trends page. We report what is currently detected, not historical installs or Theme Store / App Store counts.
Independent by design: rankings are determined solely by live detection data. Affiliate relationships never affect what ranks or how stores are counted. Read the full methodology →
