Tidio bundles live chat, AI chatbot and helpdesk into one Shopify app: customer conversations coming in through chat, email and social channels all land in the same inbox, the AI agent handles the routine questions on its own, and the human on the team picks up the ones that need judgment. The pitch is that a small support team can cover a much larger conversation volume without hiring, which is why it shows up so often on growing DTC brands where support cost is a real line item.
The panels below show its dataset share and rank, the store types and themes it runs on, and the apps most commonly installed alongside it, a useful check on whether Tidio fits the shape of your storefront and your existing app stack.
Strengths. Tidio combines the three tools most stores end up buying separately (live chat, chatbot, helpdesk) into one subscription, which is where the value shows up for a store that would otherwise stack a chat app on top of a helpdesk on top of a chatbot. The AI agent picks up simple questions (order status, return policy, product availability) without a human touch, and the humans on the team see the conversations the AI escalates rather than every one from scratch. It carries a top-tier App Store rating over a large review base, which is a much stronger signal than a similar score from a small handful of reviews.
Who it's for. A growing Shopify or Shopify Plus store where support volume is climbing faster than headcount: DTC brands with real inbound conversations, subscription and consumables categories where reorder questions repeat, apparel with sizing questions, and any store where a chunk of support tickets are questions the AI can answer from the product page and order data alone. Also a fit for stores currently running Shopify Inbox and hitting its ceiling but not yet at the size that justifies Gorgias enterprise pricing.
Watchouts. The AI agent needs real training and a defined scope, or it starts giving confident-sounding wrong answers on edge cases: block it from anything financial or refund-authorizing until you have watched its responses for a fortnight. Free tier is genuinely useful for a first look, but the paid tiers add up quickly once conversation volume grows, so model the monthly cost against your ticket count before scaling the plan. And Tidio is a support tool, not an on-page conversion widget: if what you actually need is a slide-cart or upsell nudge, a cart-side app fits better than a chat widget.

This figure comes from live detection: we scan Shopify storefronts and read the apps each one runs, then express it as a share of the 3,500,000+ stores in our dataset. It is a share of every store in our dataset, not just recently scanned stores, so it moves more slowly than the month-over-month figures on our trends page. We report what is currently detected, not historical installs or Theme Store / App Store counts.
Independent by design: rankings are determined solely by live detection data. Affiliate relationships never affect what ranks or how stores are counted. Read the full methodology →
