Across 138 real Tinker stores, 57% pass Google’s Core Web Vitals (median LCP 1.8s). Filtered to stores running only a few apps, that rises to 53.9%, isolating the theme’s own speed from the apps merchants pile on.
Tinker is one of Shopify's newer free themes and part of the Horizon collection. It is aimed at makers who care how their work is presented. Modern layouts and bento-style collection cards give a store a curated, gallery-like feel. Jewelry, accessories, and food and drink brands suit that style well.
It arrives well equipped for a free theme. Swatch filters, search, and infinite scroll make browsing effortless. Zoom, video, and lookbooks show craftsmanship up close. Quick buy and pre-order handle the sale, including products that are not in stock yet. Shopify's newer nested blocks let you rearrange each section, so you get real layout control without touching code.
What you get: a modern, curated store for a craft-led brand, plus merchandising tools that earn their place. The block system is the highlight. It offers a level of flexibility that free themes rarely include.
The limits: owners flag specific customization gaps rather than broad problems. Price variant display, text positioning, and some Instagram checkout compatibility come up most. None break a store, but you cannot fine-tune every last detail.
Best fit: small and mid-sized makers with a growing catalog, from around a dozen products up to a few hundred. Jewelry, accessories, and food and drink brands that want a considered, editorial look.
One caution: do not expect every setting to bend to your plan. Design your store around Tinker's built-in behavior instead of fighting it, and you will get far more from it.

This figure comes from live detection: we scan Shopify storefronts and read the active theme each one runs, then express it as a share of the 3,500,000+ stores in our dataset. It is a share of every store in our dataset, not just recently scanned stores, so it moves more slowly than the month-over-month figures on our trends page. We report what is currently detected, not historical installs or Theme Store / App Store counts.
Independent by design: rankings are determined solely by live detection data. Affiliate relationships never affect what ranks or how stores are counted. Read the full methodology →
